About the Exhibition

Paintings reveal a variety of textures created with a paintbrush or one’s hands and fingers. With focus on the matière, we have chosen recently acquired or restored works by artists such as KAWABATA Minoru, TANAKA Takashi, and NOMIYAMA Gyoji reflecting the appeal and depth of the matière. In addition, there is a corner featuring NAKAO Makoto, an artist who had a studio in Kitakamakura from 1964 to his later years and created an intellectual, warm painterly world of his own inspired by Paul Celan’s poems.
