French Prints and Publication in the 20th Century
Chagall, Matisse, and Tériade

September 22 – December 24, 2012

Two exhibitions will be held simultaneously; "French Prints and Publication in the 20th Century—Chagall, Matisse, and Tériade" at Gallery1, "EGUCHI Shu: Sculptures & Drawings" at Gallery 2 and Sculpture Gallery.

Marc Chagall (1887-1985) and Henri Matisse (1869-1954), who are well-known for their colorful paintings, also showed great talent in printmaking. This exhibition features 20th century French prints including spectacular series such as Daphnis and Chloé and Cirque by Chagall and Jazz by Matisse. Also on view are publications which supported these artists such as the art journal Verve. Verve was edited by Tériade (1897-1983), who was a key figure in publications on art in those days and also produced portfolios of prints by Chagall and Matisse.
