New Acquisitions of 2012

Postwar nihonga (Japanese-style painting) has made its mark in history as a struggle between tradition and innovation. Without taking tradition into account, innovative art would be frail.
Here, we have selected 20 or so choice examples from our collection including limpid works by TAKAYAMA Tatsuo, KAYAMA Matazo, and others, ambitious nihonga by NAKAJIMA Chinami in the prime of life,
and works demonstrating both tradition and innovation such as Indignation by SHOJI Fuku.
Works newly acquired in 2012 will also be on show.
