Part 1. 1985-2016: The Present and Future

The Museum of Modern Art, Kamakura & Hayama began in Kamakura in 1951. The Kamakura building, which became commonly known as the Kamakura Kinbi (Kamakura MoMA), is to bring its function as an art museum to an end in 2016. In its final year, fiscal 2015, its approximately 65-year history is looked back on in three parts.
  In Part 1 of this series that traces its progress towards the future, exhibitions held at the Kamakura building from 1985 to 2015 are surveyed through the actual works and reference materials or photographs. At a time when the bubble economy and its collapse also had not a little influence on the art world, The Museum of Modern Art expanded its activities by opening its Kamakura Annex in 1984 and its Hayama building in 2003.
  Approximately 70 works from the museum collection will be on view.
