Museum Collection 1: Art of the Meiji Era
―Charles Wirgman, Yoshimatsu Goseda and Seiki Kuroda―
With works from Kanagawa Prefectual Museum of Cultural History

April 8 - May 15, 2016



In conjunction with Naojiro Harada, a Western-style painter who was active in the Meiji era, works by artists contemporaneous with Harada will be on view at Gallery 1. Art in the Meiji era will be surveyed through works by Charles Wirgman, a British artist who had a significant influence on Yuichi Takahashi and others, Night View of Lake Chuzenji by Kinkichiro Honda, Night View at Negishi-ogyonomatsu by Fusetsu Nakamura, and oil paintings by Yoshimatsu Goseda, which were much talked about following the retrospective held at Kanagawa Prefectural Museum of Cultural History last year.

  • The exhibition ticket of "Naojiro Harada Retrospective" also entitles entry to "Museum Collection 1" for the day of purchase.
  • "Family Communication Day" - reduced entry for all family members (except for 65 and over) accompanied by a child under 18 on the first Sunday of every month (May 1).
