Access
Train station: Kamakura (JR Yokosuka Line and Enoden Line). Walk in the direction of Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine and Kitakamakura (about 15 minutes). Or take Enoden Bus from bus stop No.2 at the East side (Higashi-guchi) of Kamakura Station (5 minutes-ride on buses to Ofuna Station, Kamiooka Station or Hongodai Station) and get off at Hachimangu-ura. 2 minutes-walk from the bus stop.

Shunsuke Matsumoto (1912-1948) began working as an artist before World War II andduring the war, he founded "Shinjingakai (New Artsits' Group)" together withAimitsu, Saburo Aso, Masao Tsuruoka, and others. He was a leading artist of modernJapanese art. Early on in his career, he admired the Ecole de Paris and devoted himselfto works by Georges Rouault, Amedeo Modigliani, George Grosz, Tsuguharu Fujita,and others. In this exhibition, we shall examine what Shunsuke absorbed from suchworks and how he developed them into his own expressions in search of the origin ofhis creativity
