Access
Train station: Kamakura (JR Yokosuka Line and Enoden Line). Walk in the direction of Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine and Kitakamakura (about 15 minutes). Or take Enoden Bus from bus stop No.2 at the East side (Higashi-guchi) of Kamakura Station (5 minutes-ride on buses to Ofuna Station, Kamiooka Station or Hongodai Station) and get off at Hachimangu-ura. 2 minutes-walk from the bus stop.

Architect OTAKA Masato and Kamakura Annex

The Kamakura Annex was designed by the architect OTAKA Masato (1923-2010) and opened in 1984. The building was in stark contrast to the light-hearted impression of the Kamakura building (designed by SAKAKURA Junzo, closed in 2016). Here, thematic exhibitions featuring works mainly from the museum collection have been held and contemporary sculpture, one of our fortes, have been introduced in the front garden. Prior to the temporary though long-term closure of the Annex for improvements, the activities undertaken over the past thirty-three years are looked back on through the collection and reference materials exhibited at the Kamakura Annex with focus on Otaka's work from the point of view of its relation with Le Corbusier, MAYEKAWA Kunio, and HIJIKATA Teiichi.

  • Students under junior high school age and disabled visitors are of no charge.
  • "Family Communication Day": reduced entry for all family members (except for 65 and over) accompanied by children under 18 on the first Sunday of every month.
