Where There is Light
December 14, 2013 - March 23, 2014
When a work of art emerges as a visual world, what makes it "visible" is the natural light, which has a real existence, and the image composed of the light,
i.e. coloring or light and shade, that fills the inner space of the work. Modern Japanese yoga (Western-style painting) transplanted Western perspective
and shading and pursued "true-to-life" realistic expressions. Realism was pursued with avant-garde art and proletarian art as the two poles.
Contemporary art includes the space itself.
Focusing on "the emergence of light" which opens up a work of art, we have sellected approximately 70 works from
TAKAHASHI Yuichi(1828-1894), KISHIDA Ryusei(1891-1929) and UCHIDA Iwao(1900-1953) to NAITO Rei(1961-) and AOKI Noe(1958-), to display the diverse senses of reality in modern and contemporary art.
