About the Exhibition

The word “modern” is included in the name of our museum. In Japanese, generally speaking, it is used when referring to something “up-to-date” and further, “stylish.” On the other hand, the word modern itself can even sound “retro.” but it originally refers to “novelty”. Expressions pursuing novelty as opposed to classical beauty or conventional trends have always been modern. In conjunction with the exhibition featuring HORIUTI Masakazu, who poured unconventional intelligence into contemporary sculpture, selected from our collection of paintings, sculptures, and designs and presented here are “forms of novelty ” artists of different periods in the twentieth century attempted.
