From Museum Collection: A Brief History of Open Air Sculpture in The Museum of Modern Art, Kamakura & Hayama
About the Exhibition
The history of our open-air sculpture exhibitions dates back to the 1950s, not long after the museum’s opening. In this exhibition, we take a chronological look back over the history of open-air sculpture at the museum, starting from works dating back to the first open-air sculpture exhibition at the former Kamakura museum, which was very much a reflection of a world-wide post-war trend, through to the work of the sculptors currently exhibited in our museum garden. As well as introducing a variety of sculptural experiments, we will also be showing a range of posters and pamphlets from the time.
