The Collection

Collection Database

The Museum of Modern Art, Kamakura & Hayama (hereafter "the Museum") houses its collection of more then 13,000 works at the present. Since exhibitions were constituted mainly by borrowed works in the early period of its history, the Museum did not have the storage for its collection. But, through its vigorous exhibition activities, the Museum obtained understanding and trust of artists, their families, and collectors, as well as the limited budget for purchase; and thus the Museum has managed to build up its collection. This acquisition effort has continued today by the Museum's purchase and the donation from thoughtful many. The Museum now takes pride in its collection, consisting chiefly of Japanese modern art, as one of the most noteworthy in terms of quality and quantity amongst public museums in Japan.
