Japanese Art of the 1950s:
Starting Point after the War

In 1950, Japan was still under occupation. From April 1952, it started out as an independent state. Presented here are works by Chimei Hamada, Kikuji Yamashita, the activities undertaken by Jikken Kobo (Experimental Workshop), and Yasuki Kanayama and Gyoji Nomiyama, and so on. We shall look back from our present viewpoint at the trends of the artists in the 1950s endeavoring to produce a new art.
