Aesthetician and social theorist Yanagi Soetsu(1889-1961) coined the word "Mingei" in the late 1920s, an abbreviation of "Minshuhteki Kohgei"(the art of folk crafts). The exhibition examines the meaning of "Mingei", showing about 150 works of Korean crafts (which influenced Yanagi's movement), Japanese crafts and works of the craft artists who joined the Mingei movement.
