Lecturer
Omuka Toshiharu is a Professor Emeritus of the University of Tsukuba. Born in Tokyo in 1951, he graduated from the Faculty of Letters I, Waseda University in 1975, and became a lecturer in the Department of Art Studies at the University of Tsukuba in 1985. In 1995, he received the Mainichi Shuppan Bunka Sho (The Mainichi Publication Culture Prize) for his book Taisho-ki shinkou bijutsu undou no kenkyu (Study of New Art Movements in the Taisho Period). He was a professor at the University of Tsukuba from 2002 to 2017. In 2017, he received the Geijutsu senshou (Minister of Education’s Art Encouragement Prize) for his book Hijouji no Modernism (Modernism in Emergency/ The University of Tokyo Press). He was a board member of the National Art Museum from 2018 to 2022. In 2022 he published Kume Tamijuro: Kiro ni tastu “Reibai-ha” (Kume Tamijuro: The Mediumism at the Crossroads of Modernism/ Serica Syobo).
