The Best Collection: Modern Nihonga Paintings

The choice sellection of nihonga [Japanese-style paintings] in our museum collection will be introduced in three parts.

Part 1(22 October-4 December) and Part 2(6 December-29 January) focuses mainly on KATAOKA Tamako and SHOJI Fuku, two female artists who participated actively in Nihon Bijutsuin(Japan Art Institute).The flow of nihonga from the Meiji period onwards will be traced. Also, studies and sketches by the nihonga artist YAMAGUCHI Hoshun, who was active in Hayama after the War, will be exhibited.

In Part 3(31 January-25 March), consisits of the ancient pictures from the Kamakura period to the Edo Period such as Mandala of Both Realms and Puppy by TAWARAYA Sotatsu from the collection of Kinoshita Shoko which was donated to the museum in 2004.
