Train station: Kamakura (JR Yokosuka Line and Enoden Line). Walk in the direction of Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine and Kitakamakura (about 15 minutes). The Annex is located 5 minutes-walk away from The Museum of Modern Art, Kamakura.

Ben Shahn and Georges Rouault

July 5 - September 15, 2014



Ben Shahn (1898-1969) was born into a Jewish family in Tsarist Russia and emigrated to the U.S.A. Georges Rouault (1871-1958) was born in Paris and wasactive there. These two men’s careers and lives do not interact directly. However, lying at the bottom of the works by both artists are profound humanism and joy. With focus on representative examples of these two artists’ works such as the series of prints Ben Shahn contributed to The Notebooks of Malte Laurids Brigge by Rainer Maria Rilke and Rouault’s Miserere, presented here are quiet but powerful expressions that stir the depths of our hearts.

  • "Family Communication Day": reduced entry for all family members (except for 65 and over) accompanied by children under 18 on the first Sunday of every month (July 6, August 3, September 7).
